A Prayer For Owen Meany

I began reading John Irving with "A widow for one year" that I stole to My English Patient and I enjoyed very much.

Last Sunday I finished "A prayer for Owen Meany" and it's the best story I've ever read.
It took me one or two sections to understand Irving's style but I read the end of the book in one marathon reading session. I spend my entire Sunday afternoon reading because I knew that more revelations were in store. I just couldn't stop!

It's difficult to sum up the story (read it!!).
The novel is told through the eyes of a mature John Wheelwright, an English teacher. The story's about his close friendship with Owen Meany during the 1950s and 1960s in a small town. Owen has an unusual voice (transcribed by capital letters) and thinks he's guided by God.
Tragedy strikes when Owen hits a foul ball at baseball game, which kills John's mother...

Predestination, faith, doubt, politics, family, friendship...These themes appear in this book. I also learnt a lot about Vietnam war.

"A prayer for Owen Meany" finished, I opened "The fourth hand"...

There's no season anymore

One day it's cold the other really hot and our air conditioning's going crazy...Heat when it's hot and cold when it's below freezing outside :-(
I can say that it's hard to work in these conditions. Anyway these days I've met nice people to talk to so it's balanced.

Today's been a beautiful day so now I'd like to share these pictures I took on my way home...Ah, Paris!

Update

I'm definitly too absorbed by my job. I can't find time to write and when I've got some: nothing or too much things to say!

The 6 last months I feel as if I'd been waltzing all day long!
Some days ago My English Patient moved from Paris to suburb so we've spent our week-end almost camping, washing and re-paint his flat...The last 4 Mondays I've been stiff!
Has anybody said I'm a sporty type of girl?
NO!

Anyway his new flat's nearly wonderful. It could have been seriously great if we have had warm water during the first week and It could have been awesome if we have had the heating!
Living like Neanderthal is definitely not my thing...I need my litter, my cushion, my heater and my dish ;-)

Four weddings, a Funeral and a Wimp!

Last Sunday at 11pm there was "Four weddings and a funeral" on tv. As we haven't seen it for a while My English Patient and I watched it.

I'm usually not emotive when I'm watching a movie...I've never cried...till the fourth times I watched "Four wedding".
Hereafter the conversation which followed:

- My English Patient: "Are you crying?
- Me: no
- Myp: yes you are
- Me: no I'm not
- Myp: YES YOU ARE!
- Me: ok, gring me a tissue!"

Ok I sometimes don't mean a word of it...Listening to the "Funeral blues" of W.H Auden I let myself go...

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum,
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead,
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Back

Ok, Ok, it's been a long time.
I've been hibernating and Spring coming I'm waking up slowly so don't speak too loud!

I've been busy with my job and above all with my family but I promise I'll write much next time.
You don't want to miss my new job with teens & kids!

Thanks a lot for your nice messages.
